Today, the House of Representatives passed a sweeping tax and spending bill. The following is a statement from Easterseals President and CEO Kendra Davenport:
“Easterseals is closely monitoring the tax and spending legislation passed by the House today, particularly its changes to Medicaid eligibility and enrollment. As one of the nation's leading service providers for people with disabilities, we know firsthand how essential Medicaid is to the health, stability, and independence of the people we serve—children and adults with disabilities, aging adults, and caregivers across the country.
Policy shifts that create additional red tape or limit access, such as new work requirements or increased eligibility checks, risk destabilizing the provider workforce and unintentionally removing coverage from individuals who remain eligible but face new administrative barriers.
While we understand the importance of safeguarding public programs, we urge lawmakers to ensure that these changes do not unintentionally harm people with disabilities, their families, or the professionals they rely on. We remain committed to working with leaders from both parties to ensure Medicaid continues to support community living, employment, and independence for all who need it.”
