Joshua Makes Great Strides

Joshua, who is diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, first stepped through the doors of Easterseals South Florida in 2010.  At that time, he couldn’t communicate, was nonverbal and would throw himself to the floor.

Teachers and staff were diligent and worked hard to help Joshua.  Gradually they saw progress with fewer signs of frustration through the help of a communication device.  Joshua began following directions.  After four years, Joshua, age 20, has incredible skills including operating the dishwasher, sweeping, mopping, table setting and cooking and serving with minimal assistance.  He has become very independent and finishes his job.

Communication was key for Joshua.  Through long hours and dedication from teachers at Easterseals South Florida, Joshua participates and interacts in social activities with his classmates.

His progress is apparent at home too.  Joshua’s mother is grateful to the staff at the Easterseals South Florida Culinary Arts High School Program.  She said the program made a huge difference in Joshua!
