0:08

my name is Lorena Gonzalez Rodriguez

0:12

my oldest her name is ilaria Willow

0:16

Marmaduke and my youngest is Jose Luis

0:20

Renteria IV and then I'm having another

0:24

boy

0:25

I started with safe years with Miss

0:27

Denise

0:29

I was just learning like when to take my

0:32

kids to the doctor it was mostly that

0:35

that was my issue not knowing when to

0:37

take my kids because that was a first

0:39

time Mom hi my name is yanet and I'm the

0:42

state care coordinator the safe CARE

0:43

program is a home visiting model it

0:46

helps parents who have children under

0:48

the age of five and it focuses on three

0:50

main areas safety to help families make

0:53

their home as safe as possible for their

0:55

children and help to help them make the

0:57

best health decisions for their children

0:59

and parent on child interaction I would

1:02

take a little bump in the head and I'll

1:04

be like okay gotta take them to the

1:06

hospital but they're like no you you

1:09

cannot do that like it's

1:12

um not recommended not and I um joined

1:14

Easter Seals when she first enrolled

1:17

into our sleep CARE program in the

1:18

health modules parents learn to assess

1:20

whether a child needs a medical care in

1:23

an emergency situation or they need to

1:25

access a doctor or something that the

1:28

parents can care at home they also

1:30

receive materials from our Safe Care

1:31

model first aid kit and thermometer to

1:33

make sure that they have everything that

1:35

they need with a safe care they they

1:37

show me like hey uh this is the

1:40

Milestones that your children should be

1:42

meeting

1:43

um and they're like yeah you're right

1:46

you you need to let the doctors know and

1:48

I told the doctor at first like I

1:50

started saying like Hey doctor my my

1:53

daughter needs like I've noticed her she

1:56

walks into the wall even if the wall is

1:59

in front of her I started advocating

2:01

more and more telling the doctors oh

2:04

well my daughter needs speech therapy my

2:06

daughter needs glasses they're not

2:09

listening a little bit but they're

2:11

they're trying to say like okay this is

2:13

the reasons she completed the program in

2:16

about five months and she transitioned

2:17

over to her parents as teachers model

2:19

because she wanted to continue services

2:21

with Easter Seals I am Jennifer Messa

2:23

and I work with parents as teachers

2:25

where I began to work with them and I

2:28

started them with the parents Teachers

2:30

Program Jennifer has helped me a lot

2:32

with uh trying to teach him and it's

2:37

just like doing like a little activity

2:39

where we sort out the colors Jose Luis

2:42

really loves it he

2:44

he doesn't sit through the whole thing

2:46

and he's like okay and he's getting

2:49

aggressive my name is Jessica Garcia and

2:51

I'm the parents teachers coordinator the

2:53

parents Teachers program is a home

2:55

visiting model it provides education and

2:58

support for families we look at three

3:00

areas we look at parent-child

3:02

interaction we look at development

3:05

centered parenting and family well-being

3:08

when she first started the parents

3:10

Teachers program she had just graduated

3:13

from Safe Care and she was excited to

3:16

learn more about her children's

3:17

development and so both children have

3:20

been participating or have participated

3:22

in the program but right now we're

3:24

focusing on Jose Luis and as far as Mom

3:29

one thing that I noticed is like her

3:31

greatest strength is that she uses the

3:35

gentle parenting approach she's had a

3:37

lot of achievements she continued the

3:39

success that you know she had with safe

3:41

care she has been learning about

3:44

developmental Milestones as her family

3:47

continues to grow she has gotten the

3:49

support from Jennifer as far as Jose

3:51

Luis I met him when he was probably like

3:54

a year old and now he's three I've seen

3:57

a tremendous growth in just his overall

4:00

development it's really great it helps

4:03

you understand more like in your

4:07

children

4:08

I guess it's just like it has really

4:10

great resources

4:12

and it's just teaching like I I find

4:16

more like the teaching of the like

4:18

connecting with your children I've done

4:21

um counseling um there's been also

4:24

pairing

4:25

um portals I participate in the parent

4:28

cafes and they pretty just might just

4:32

said how they were handling being a

4:35

parent

4:36

um

4:37

and I really did enjoy the counseling

4:39

there's nothing wrong with asking for a

4:42

little bit of help at first I was like

4:44

why do I need

4:46

um to know how to parent I'm like I'm

4:48

already a mom but you know there is

4:50

still things that we can learn a little

4:52

bit more it just confirms that I'm doing

4:55

things right it is uh it's a really

4:58

great program I really do like the

5:01

experience I've felt with Jennifer and

5:04

with Denise it's been great

5:07

that's my experience and I think to

5:09

parents they would take great advantage

5:12

of a program like this because not

5:15

everybody teaches you stuff like they do

5:18

and sometimes we don't have great

5:20

backgrounds Easter Seals does show us

5:23

hey we can do better or we're doing good

5:27

this program really does help parents

5:29

one learn about their child's

5:31

development two learns how to interact

5:34

with their child in an age-appropriate

5:37

way and helps them meet milestones and

5:40

reach goals and I think one of the

5:43

important things that I've told Lorena

5:46

as well is that a lot of parents they

5:48

just need that reassurance that they are

5:50

doing a great job Lorena was already

5:52

doing a great job but this program just

5:55

reassures her that she is doing an

5:58

amazing job with her children and I

5:59

think that's what this program does

6:04

it starts here
