The Hidalgo County Family Resource Center is located in Hidalgo, Starr County and serves as a community-based site that provides a wide range of support services and resources for parents and caregivers of young children. The focus of the family resource center is to promote the importance of child development and strengthen the well-being of the family through parenting workshops, health screenings, counseling, and making connections to other community resources.

The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program serves families with children parental through 5 years of age. The PAT program provides developmental parenting instruction and screening for early detection of developmental delays ensuring children are healthy, safe and ready to learn in their communities.

A friend of mine told me about her parent educator and she pushed me to get enrolled into the Easter Seals program. My oldest was around 2 years old and I was pregnant of the second child. This is how it started. The parents as teachers program promotes early development, learning, and health of children by providing one-on-one support for parents from pregnancy through age 5. Parents receive individualized home visits, parenting resources, and the support of a parent educator.

Early childhood intervention is a statewide program that supports families with children from birth to 3 years. ECI provides a range of therapy services and supports to help families who have children who have developmental delays, a medical diagnosis, or at risk for delay. The ECI team includes the parents and the early intervention therapists. Together they develop goals to strengthen the baby's development and provides parents the strategies to work with their baby throughout the day during their natural routines with their advice.

Parents as Teachers program is to support the child's development and overall well-being of the whole family. I heard about the Parents as Teachers program and it was explained to me, I thought, I like this. This is something that we can do. I'm a stay-at-home parent and I'm going to embrace this as best as possible. When I got the workbook or the, I was overwhelmed because I just looked at the size of it. But when I started leafing through it and I started seeing how.

Josiah, at first, he wasn't talking very much. He could understand what we were saying, but he would not talk at all. His pediatrician was concerned and they suggested the Parents as Teachers program as kind of a support system. Because Josiah is mainly around the two of us all the time, I thought it would be helpful for him to interact with other or other adults, so we do home visits twice a month.

Parent as Teachers program through Easterseals through a friend of mine named Christina through MOPS. Being a stay-at-home mom can be isolating sometimes, and I really love how the Parent as Teacher would come and just be down to earth and really help me with any questions, and sometimes that was more important than anything else. It helps support expecting moms and new moms in their journey with parenting. I love that we could encourage each other and just share with each other and learn so much from the other moms. I know children spend a lot of time in school and families should be the foundation of where they learn from. First and foremost, family is a priority.

Easterseals Houston has partnered with Easterseals Rio Grande Valley to expand the BridgingApps project in our Valley Community.

The Family Resource Center serves as a hub of support for families that provides supportive services for those in need of assistance.

The SafeCare program helps support parents with positive engagement, safety & their child's health. The program serves parents with children parental to 5 years of age living in Hidalgo County and supports parents in 3 topic areas focused on parent-infant and parent-child interaction, home safety, and child health.

Texas Home Visiting is a free program that helps good people be great parents.
